Kansuke has a rather complex personality (see history below)
Although he is kind, reserved and intelligent, he could also be described as cold, harsh and psychotic. This is down to him having a second personality. Once, these two personalities were very different from one another; now, however, they tend to merge. Due to their differences, these personalities are at constant war with one another. How he appears to act is not necessarily what he is thinking.
Whilst he often appears kind and thoughtful, his thoughts are usually centered around hatred and revenge. He very rarely makes friends and, when he does, they're usually fake or don't last very long.
Regardless of what personality he expresses, one thing usually remains; his intelligence. He is a very perceptive and ambiguous canine. He has mastered the effect of lying and knows how to keep his thoughts silent, in case of a mind-reader.
Generally, Kansuke will appear quiet and distant. He prefers to learn from a distance, so resists social interactions as much as possible.

Kansuke wasn't born an elemental.
Rather, he was raised to fear them. His pack was centered around capturing and experimenting on elementals- a cause which, at the time, seemed righteous. It wasn't a bad thing to find out about your enemy-- and if this was achieved through pain, then so be it. However, by using such gruesome methods his pack began to gain attention. Elementals, knowing their power, soon began to seek revenge.
Kansuke was on a hunting party with his parents at the time. It all happened so suddenly; one minute, he was in paradise. The next, he was forced to watch his mother get choked by vines and his father burn from the inside out. Horrified, he ran. But alas, he could feel the vines curl around his paws and begin to pull him back. It wasn't long before he was facing the murderer's faces; each of them splattered with the blood of his parents.
To the elementals, mere experimentation was not enough. They tortured him endlessly. Needles and knives and shackles. Being drowned, and then revived, and then poisoned, and then revived again. A red injection of sorts was given to him daily. It seemed to keep him awake and heal faster, so that he was able to sustain multiple injuries. Eventually, his body became so used to the injection that he didn't need it anymore; they could snap his bones and they would heal within hours. The Elementals also found a fun way to dispose of their victims bodies. Kansuke was fed only the meat from those the elementals had murdered. In other terms, he was made to be a cannibal. He was kept on this diet for such a long time that he finds all other food disgusting and can no longer eat 'normal' food.
Needless to say, during this time Kansuke developed a second personality. One of them is the kind, considerate and forgiving teen he was when the elementals took him; the other is the cannibalistic, murderous and twisted victim he became.

> If you try to befriend him, he will probably only become more reserved.
> Deep down he does seek companionship. However, he will never accept it. Especially, it seems, if it were from an Elemental.
> Although he was technically turned into an elemental, he still claims to hate them. His image of Elementals has become so corrupted that he both fears and dislikes them. He states that the only reason he is among them now is to spy on them and learn their weaknesses.
> Because of his past he finds it very difficult to eat 'normal' food. His body has become so accustomed to his cannibal diet that, if he were to eat normal food, he will feel a strong urge to vomit and become ill. As such, he often goes for long periods without eating. This makes him extremely weak and unable to use his abilities. So, without giving into hunger, he is unable to heal and use his strength.
